Long Overdue

I know it has been forever since my last post. Tim just told me it has been almost a month and I didn't believe him. Then I looked at today's date and the date of the last post. October 15th. Where the heck has the time gone? What can I say though, life has been busy and time consuming I guess. I am trying to think of everything that has been going on but I guess there is just too much to catch up on.

Last weekend we headed up to NY for Halloween. While we were there I got to see some of my relatives on my Dad's side that I hadn't seen in FOREVER. (Hi Kim, I finally blogged again, lol). It was nice to spend some time with them before they headed back to Arkansas. The rest of the weekend was spent splitting wood at my grandparents house and the normal Halloween festivities with the family. Look at this cutie! He was my favorite part of Halloween for sure!

Other than that, this week has seemed like a blur. Work has been so busy for both Tim and I this week. Today we spent most of the day packing as we are getting ready to head out tomorrow morning (about 4am) for our flight to San Diego. Tim is tagging along this week while work takes me to San Diego til Tuesday and then over to Honolulu until Saturday. Tim is very excited about these adventures. Me - not so much, lol. I guess its because one I hate to fly and two I will be working while he lays on the beach drinking fruity drinks and gets a tan. So not my idea of the perfect week, lol. It will be nice to see Hawaii though. We will be home very late Sat night and should arrive back at the house around 2 am on Sunday morning. I then head out again on Monday morning for NC until the following Friday night so things will once again be jammed packed these next 2 weeks.

Thankfully I will arrive home in just enough time to get things ready for our Thanksgiving guests this year. My Mom, Stepfather, Stepbrother, Sister, Brother-in-law and nephew will all be here. Sadly my brother won't be able to make it but I am sure he is secretly a little relived about that, lol. He just spent a weekend with us. I am sure that will hold him off for a while now, lol.

Witch Way?

Well Tim and I finished decorating the outside of the house this weekend. If you remember I was going crazy trying to find black urns for the front of the house. I ended up finding some terracotta pots at IKEA and my wonderful hubby spray painted them for me (have I mentioned how much I just LOVE spray paint, lol). Anyway, we finished the pots, headed out to our local nursery and picked up the last of the supplies... hay, corn stalks, mums and long neck gourds.

Once again, much to my hubby's dismay, I decide to come up with some goofy idea for the front of our house. Why can't I just throw some pumpkins out there, a store bought wreath etc? Nope, can't do that. I decided I am going to make a wreath first. I saw this idea months ago on the web (it was for the 4th) so I decide to try one for halloween. I find a foam wreath and a few spools of black grosgrain ribbon. I cut equal strips and then tied them (messy knots, right over left) until the entire wreath was full and then trimmed the edges and sprayed it with some starch. One day while shopping at the dollar store for floral wire I found a cute little sign and wired it in place. Here is the end result (sorry it's a little blurry).

Have I mentioned that I absolutely love the sign I picked up at the dollar store, lol. Ok, so back to the rest of the project. One day while Tim and I were at this nursery we saw some of the long necked gourds. I picked one up and said... huh, looks like a ghost, just needs to be white! Idea planted, lol. Tim slunk immediately as he saw my face light up. PROJECT! So with the help of some white spray paint, I hand painted their faces and Tim drilled a hole in the bottom of each. We let them drain and then placed them on a stake and into the hay for support. Add some corn stalks, mums, my wreath and since taking the pictures some pumpkins and I think it turned out pretty good! I am definitely pleased with the end result.

Apples, apples and more apples

Boy, that is definitely the perfect title for this post. This past Saturday John, Ri, Aiden, Tim and I all headed over to Homestead Farm in Poolesville, MD for some fall fun. This fun included apple picking, hay rides, pumpkin patches, apple cider, caramel apples, hot dogs and Tim and Ri's favorite, warm apple pie with ice cream! We hiked our way through the mostly picked apple orchard and finally found some apples left to claim. You know how it goes, we found some, reached what we could, Ri climbed a few trees, Tim found a ladder, we picked a bunch, decided we had enough, picked the bucket up, walked about 3 feet and stopped again because we found some others that looked really good as well. Repeat prior process and by the time we were done we had picked 22lbs of apples, lol. Mind you we don't make applesauce or can apple pie filling so we are just eating a whole lot of apples between the 4 of us, lol.

I have to say watching Aiden was as cute as ever. John would bring him over to a tree and he would grab an apple, pull, pull a little more, shake it a little and then we heard a little squeal when it wouldn't come off, lol. I wish I would have had my camera set to video for it. It had all of us cracking up, lol.

After carrying our apples back to the farm area we spent a few minutes feeding their goats (my absolute favorite part, lol) and John decided to make friends with Elmo (the local cow, lol). Next up was lunch (dessert for Tim and Ri, lol) and headed out on the hay ride to the pumpkin patch.

By this point the little man was getting tired out but not before looking in amazement at the tractor that was moving us along. He decided it was time for a quick nap while Tim, Ri and I marched through the pumpkin patch in search of our perfect pumpkins. After about 5 mins we were set and ready to go! We headed out but not before stopping at one of mine and Tim's favorite restaurants, Bucca di Beppo. It was the perfect ending to a great day!
